Bobbin Tension

Measurement

The AMAYA functions best when the bobbin tension is between 15-25 cN.  This is looser than the tension typically set for bobbins on other embroidery machines.

The following procedures below approximates this tension specification for technicians who do not have thread tension measurement devices in the field and should be used to check bobbin tension on AMAYA machines.

Checking Bobbin Tension

To check the tension of the bobbin, hold the bobbin thread with one hand. As you gently release the bobbin case, it should begin a slow and steady drop. This is the equivalent to 15 cN. The upper value of this range can be checked in a similar way. With the bobbin case hanging on the bobbin thread, bounce the case slightly and it should drop about 2-4 inches.

Adjustment

If the tension is too tight or too loose, use a flat-blade screwdriver to turn the screw clockwise to tighten or counterclockwise to loosen the tension. A little bit goes a long way; adjust as necessary.

The AMAYA functions better when the bobbin is full.  When the bobbin spools reaches the last 1/16” or so of thread the tension loosens drastically and false bobbin and other errors result.  If this happens, replace the bobbin thread with a new spool and recheck the bobbin tension.
