Graphical Zoom in allows you to click and drag a box around the area that you would like to zoom in on. This operation is more specific than Zoom in. The keyboard shortcut key for this is <Ctrl> spacebar.

Zoom in enlarges the design on the screen. It does not affect sewing size. Besides pressing the toolbar button to use zoom in, you can also use a keyboard shortcut by pressing <Ctrl> '+' on your keyboard (using the numeric keypad).

Zoom out decreases the design size on the screen. It does not affect sewing size. The keyboard shortcut for zoom out is to press <Ctrl> '-' on your keyboard (using the numeric keypad).

Zoom actual displays on the screen the actual sewing size of a design. After changing the design view, click this tool to bring the design view back to it's actual sewing size. The keyboard shortcut for zoom actual is to press <Alt> A on your keyboard.

Zoom to fit will increase or decrease the design size to fit the entire design on the screen. Click this tool to display the full design. It does not affect sewing size. The keyboard shortcut for zoom to fit window is to press <Ctrl> F on your keyboard.

Fit Selection Zoom allows you to zoom in on a specific area that you would like to edit. After you have an area selected to edit, click on the fit selection tool.

Center Selection allows you to scroll the view to center all currently selected objects. The objects will be centered in the main view window without changing the current zoom level.

Zoom previous will return one previous zoom level. It does not affect sewing size. The keyboard shortcut for zoom previous is to press <Ctrl> L on your keyboard.

You can find all of the Zoom functions in two locations: the toolbar buttons or under the View Menu.

Zoom Levels - A larger zoom factor can be achieved on Windows 2000/XP systems by decreasing the size of the DesignShop workspace area. The default setting of 16x16 inches will yield a zoom factor of 806%. By reducing the workspace area to a setting of 12x12 inches an additional 400% can be obtained. Reducing the workspace area further will yield even higher zoom factors but at the expense of scrolling capability. An additional benefit of reducing the workspace area is that the Navigator is easier to use because the design appears larger in the Navigator window. Note that reducing the workspace area does not affect the size at which the design is displayed in the view window. Care should be taken when using higher zoom factors - when digitizing, the user is more inclined to enter points too close together when a difference of a single point appears on the screen as multiple inches. The user should determine what physical size of designs is typical and set the workspace area accordingly. The size of the workspace area can be changed as follows:

  1. From within the tree view, right click on the project entry.

  2. Select Properties.

  3. Select Project.
