Selecting Commands->Applique allows you to perform a manual applique. When you select this command, a message window will appear, displaying: Machine is about to move. Click on OK to allow the machine to continue. The machine then pushes the hoop forward.
When you are ready to continue sewing, click the Applique button again, and the hoop arms will return to sewing position.
